Todd & Carley Abell, Owners
Todd and Carley Abell have dedicated their lives to serving the families of Hale and Lubbock Counties in both funeral care and the floral industry.
Todd graduated from Ralls High School in Ralls, Texas, in 1981 and from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, with honors, in February 1986. Carley is a 1981 graduate of Perryton High School in Perryton, Texas. Together, they have two sons, Keelan and Cory; one daughter, Teyler; and four grandchildren, Braeden, Keelee, Corbin, and Kembree.
The Abells are active in community affairs. Both Todd and Carley were members of the Abernathy Lions Club, where Todd served as past president and Carley served as the club’s first female president. Todd has also served on the Abernathy City Council and has been active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Abernathy Industrial Board. Carley has been active in the Boy Scouts, serving as a Den Leader and Cub Master. She has also held several offices within the South Plains Professional Floral Association and the WTNM Floral Association, including president. Both are members of these organizations and have served on various committees.
Todd has also demonstrated his commitment to funeral service by serving as president of the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association, serving on the Board of the Texas Funeral Directors Association, and being appointed to the Texas Funeral Directors Disaster Committee.

Jackson Harbison
Funeral Director & Embalmer
Jackson Harbison began his employment with Abell Funeral Home in 2013 while he was a sophomore at Shallowater High School, where he graduated in 2015. Jackson went on to graduate from Wayland Baptist University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned his degree in Mortuary Science in December 2019.
Jackson holds licenses in both funeral directing and embalming. He is married to Shelby (Sower) Harbison, who was raised in Wolfforth, Texas. Following her graduation from Frenship High School, Shelby attended Wayland Baptist University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and Management in 2017, and an MBA in 2020. The couple purchased a home in Abernathy, Texas, where they currently reside. Jackson and Shelby welcomed their daughter, Julia, to the Harbison family in September 2024.
Jackson has served on the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association Board in several capacities and has also dedicated time as a board member for the Texas Funeral Directors Association. Jackson and Shelby are both members of LifePoint Baptist Church in Lubbock, where Jackson was ordained as a deacon on May 7, 2023.

Jackson Harbison

Jackson Harbison began his employment with Abell Funeral Home in 2013 while he was a sophomore at Shallowater High School, where he graduated in 2015. Cheri Liess
Funeral Director
Cheri (Bufe) Liess has been associated with Abell Funeral Home since 2011.
Cheri is a 1996 graduate of Abernathy High School. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Lubbock Christian University in 2000, she married Jake Liess. In 2004, Jake and Cheri returned to Abernathy to raise their family. They have two daughters, Taelor and Addison.
Cheri is actively involved with the Abernathy High School Twirlers and band, and she also works part-time at the Abernathy Church of Christ. In September 2014, Cheri completed all the requirements for her Texas State Funeral Director’s License.

Cheri Liess
Funeral Director
Cheri (Bufe) Liess has been associated with Abell Funeral Home since 2011.
