Services for Zephra Pope, 95, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 1, 2007, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Pope died at her home, Thursday morning, August 30, 2007. She was born January 4, 1912 in Peacock, TX to J. O. and Rosa Estella (Bearden) Robertson. She moved to the Plains of Texas in 1921 from Red Springs, TX. She married James Wesley Pope, SR on December 24, 1936 in Abernathy, TX, and he preceded her in death January 10, 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Pope in 1941, 4 sisters and a brother. She is survived by 2 sons, and Jimmy Pope and his wife Peggy of Possum Kingdom Lake, TX, and Robert Pope and his wife Gwyn of Abernathy, TX, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Johnny Robertson of Gainesville, FL and Hubert Robertson of Mt. Vernon, TX, 3 sisters, Elouise Kinast of Abernathy, TX, Dee Carr of Stallings, NC and Melva Downs of Pampa, TX.
