Virginia Shuey

Services for Virginia (Thomas) Shuey, 72, of Abernathy, TX will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2016, in the Abernathy Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 6:00pm until 7:30 pm Monday, January 11th. Mrs. Shuey died at her home in Abernathy, Friday, January 8, 2016. Virginia was born September 13, 1943 in Plainview, TX to William Glen and Eva Pearl (Owen) Thomas. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1962 and married Jimmy Shuey June 3, 1962 in Abernathy. She was employed by Region 17 Education Service Center for 23 years, and was active in the Hallelujah Choir for 7 years as a singer that performed at various functions. She volunteered at the Church Food Pantry and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a woman of many talents, including, sewing, gardening, cooking, singing, crocheting, knitting, leather crafts and was even the family barber at times. She was preceded in death by a son, Russell Shuey, May 29, 2015. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy of Abernathy, 2 sons, Grady and wife Tracie of Brownwood, TX and Chris and wife Kimberly of Abernathy, a daughter, Vicki Grisham and husband Gary of Abernathy, daughter-in-law, Kim Shuey of Amarillo, TX, brother, Charles Thomas of Amarillo, TX, 7 grandchildren, Taylor, Jayton, Lindsey, Casey, Chrislynn, Katie and Beth and 5 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the South Plains Food Bank, 4612 Locust Ave., Lubbock, TX 79404, Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410 or to a favorite Hospice.
