Services for Virgil Branley, 79, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 5, 2008, in the Genesis Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX, with Rev. Roger Garrett officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Brantley died Thursday, July 3, 2008, in Lubbock, TX. He was born April 28, 1929 in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from High School in Boystown and later enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Panama and later at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock. He married Georgia Ruth Brantley on May 4, 1950. She Preceded him in death July 3, 1996. On December 31, 1999, in Lubbock, TX, he married Irene Purser. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy, TX, was a member of the Oddfellow Lodge and had served as Deputy Grand Master. He is survived by his wife, Irene Brantley, of Lubbock, TX, a son, Michael J. Brantley of Lubbock, TX, 2 granddaughters, 2 great grandsons, 5 step sons, Robert Armstrong, Roy Armstrong and Leslie Thompson all of Lubbock, TX, Edwin Armstrong of Idaho and Darrell Armstrong of Arizona.
