Vera Benton

Graveside services for Vera Cooley Benton, 87, of Lubbock, TX and formerly of Hale Center, TX, were held at 10:30 am Saturday, May 17, 2003, in the Hale Center Cemetery with Bro. George Carkeet officiating. Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. She was born on August 8, 1915 in Hale Center, TX. She graduated as Valedictorian from Cotton Center High School. She moved from Hale Center to Plainview in 1943 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. She worked as an RN in Hale Center, Olton, Plainview and Littlefield, TX. She retired from Dr. Roy Roberts in Plainview, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers. Survivors; 1 daughter, Rose Watts and her husband Lloyd of Lubbock, TX. 2 grandchildren, Bedford E. Buckner of Ft. Worth, TX and Barbara Ann Hansen of Littlefield, TX. 2 great grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Carey of Lubbock, TX, and Sarah Grace Cannon of Mississippi. 1 great great granddaughter, Tabitha Carey of Lubbock, TX. 2 nephews and 1 niece.
