Terry Kitchens

Terry Kitchens, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on October 7, 1945, in Lampasas, Texas. She was the beloved daughter of Roy D. and Lucy (Cole) Martin.

Raised in San Angelo, Terry graduated from Amarillo High School, setting the foundation for a life marked by dedication and service. Throughout her career, she applied her meticulous bookkeeping skills with unwavering professionalism at several respected institutions, including Dr. Gregory’s practice, Abernathy City Hall, Wolf Irrigation, and Grain Sorghum.

Terry was not only known for her work but also for her deep commitment to her community and her faith. A gifted pianist, she enriched the worship experience at both Northside Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Abernathy through her musical talents. Her involvement extended to being a cherished member of the Abernathy Music Club, where she shared her passion for music with fellow enthusiasts.

She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Kitchens of Abernathy, Texas, who stood by her side as a steadfast partner throughout their years together. Her family legacy continues through her devoted son, Mark Kitchens, also of Abernathy, and her six grandchildren: Bryson Kitchens, Braden Kitchens (Claire Pierce), Brittany Meeks (Patrick), Jared Kitchens (Sarah), Chandler Kitchens (Gertrude), and Sterling Kitchens (Chloé). Terry’s spirit and love live on in her great-grandchildren, Harper, Tatum, and Bennett Kitchens, who carried her joyful presence into the next generation.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Chris Kitchens (2009) and Kyle Kitchens (2012); her daughter-in-law, Amy Kitchens (2024); and her brother, Jerry Martin, whose memories remain cherished by all who knew them.

Terry Kitchens leaves behind a profound legacy of love, devotion, and kindness. Her life touched many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were privileged to know her. She will forever hold a place of respect and admiration in the hearts of her family and community.

Visitation will be held on Friday April 10, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Abell Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at Abernathy Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2026, commencing at 10:00 AM.
