Services for T. J. "Red" Attebury, 72, of Abernathy, TX were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 16, 2002, in the First Baptist Church, Abernathy, with Rev. John Lowrie, Rev. Jimmy McGuire and Rev. Joel Perez officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Attebury died on Sunday, October 13, 2002, in Lubbock, TX. He was born on May 31, 1930 to Bethel Edgar Attebury and Elsie Exendine Attebury in Idalou, TX. He married Sue Driver on February 20, 1965 in Lubbock, TX. He graduated from New Deal High School and also graduated from Texas Tech University in 1952. He moved to Abernathy in 1987 from New Deal, TX. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and Betty Attebury, and 2 brothers, Bill Attebury and Wendell Attebury, both in 2001. He is survived by; wife, Sue Attebury of Abernathy, TX 2 sons, John Attebury of Jacksonville, FL and Bryan Attebury of New Deal, TX. 2 brothers, James Attebury of Lubbock, TX and David Attebury of Abernathy, TX. 2 sisters, Kathleen Howell of Anton, TX, and June Pate of Atlanta, TX. 4 grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, 411 - 7th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to the Abernathy Cemetery Assn. c/o First State Bank, 402 - 9th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311.
