Shane Cunningham

Services for Shane Cunningham were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 1998, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Wilcox, pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Teeters, officiating.

Burial followed in the Littlefield Memorial Park, Littlefield, TX, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home.

Shane died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998.

He was born July 3, 1962, in Littlefield to Bobby and Missy (Bridwell) Cunningham. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1980. While in high school, Shane competed in track and cross country and was the starting guard for the Abernathy Antelope football team. He married Jonna West on June 30, 1984, in Floydada.

He was a member of the Pastor’s Class Sunday School, Abernathy Lions Club and former officer, Abernathy Chamber of Commerce and Abernathy Industrial Foundation. He had been a member of the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department. He worked with his family, operating 66 Butane and Fertilizer in both Abernathy and Littlefield. Shane graduated from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1984 and worked for a funeral home in New Braunfels. He later assisted with funeral services at Abell Funeral Home.

He served on the Texas Municipal League Board of directors for the South Plains region. He was president of the 17-county TML Region 3 from 1993-1994.

Survivors included his wife, son, Cooper of Abernathy, a daughter, Cortni of Abernathy; his parents, Bobby and Missy Cunningham of Abernathy; a brother, Scott of Littlefield; and his grandparents, A.C. and Naomi Bridwell of Littlefield.

Pallbearers at Shane’s services were Mike Lambert, Van Riley, Jeff Oswalt, Grant McCarty, Ryan Thompson and Craig Ellison. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Aldridge, Bobby McAlister, Lyndell Myatt, Harvey Lutrick, Hugh Pettit and Porky Tennell
