Sarah Mendoza

Rosary for Sarah Mendoza, 83, of Abernathy, TX, will be recited at her home, at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, September 15, 2020. The family suggests all attendees bring a lawn chair and bug spray. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 16, 2020 in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Wood, pastor, officiating. Due to Governor's orders, St. Isidore must limit the occupancy during the Mass to 100 parishioners. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Mendoza died at her home, Monday, September 14, 2020. She was born December 17, 1936 in Salado, TX to Braulio and Petra (Ybarra) Alcozer. She married Julian Mendoza, SR., November of 1952 in Lubbock. She was an avid member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where she faithfully served and was a member of the Guadalupanas. She was a great mom, grandma, great-grandma and great great grandma and knew it was her job in life to exhibit those traits. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Julian Mendoza, Sr., son, Johnny Mendoza, brother, Raymond Mercado and 2 sisters, Pauline Alcozer Huerta and Natalia Campos. She is survived by 2 daughters, Patsy Mendoza and Josie Chavez and husband Richard all of Lubbock, TX, 3 sons, Julian Mendoza and wife Mary of Carrollton, TX, Tony Mendoza and wife Rebecca of Belton, TX and Frank Mendoza and wife Alice of Abernathy, brother, Tony Mercado and wife John Anne of Denver City, TX, and 2 sisters, Lupe Huges of Levelland, TX and Margie Flores of Pueblo, CO, 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
