Sammy Stephens

Memorial services for Sammy L. Stephens, 54, of Turlock, CA, and formerly of Abernathy, TX, were held Monday, March 15, 2004, at 2:00 pm, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire officiating. Burial was in the Abernathy Cemetery. Mr. Stephens died at his home Thursday, February 27, 2004. He was born November 12, 1949 in Lubbock, TX to Ralph and Dorothy Stephens. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1968, and later earned his BA from West Texas State University, Canyon, TX and his Masters from New Mexico State University. He enlisted in the United States Army and later joined the Green Berets during the Vietnam Conflict. He earned the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He married Alicia Acuff in Sacramento, CA, December 31, 1990. He is survived by his wife; Alicia Stephens of Turlock, CA, One son, Brian Stephens and one daughter, Janie Lee Stephens both of Lubbock, TX. Mother, Dorothy Stephens of Abernathy, TX. Two brothers, Ronnie Stephens of Graham, TX, and Gene Stephens of Abernathy, TX. One sister, Ruedelle Hill of Abernathy, TX. He is also survived by five nephews and five neices.
