Roy Don Stephenson

Graveside Services for Roy Don Stephenson, 82, of Lubbock, TX will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 14, 2024, in the Abernathy Cemetery. The family will gather to receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Friday, December 13th, at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mr. Stephenson died Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. He was born on May 30, 1942 in Lubbock to Trox and Mary (Patterson) Stephenson and was raised in New Deal, TX. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1960. Roy married Patsy McMullen on July 5, 1985 in Lubbock. He farmed for many years before becoming a crop adjustor. He served on the Board of Directors of the New Deal Coop Gin and was a supervisor for Fireman's Fund Insurance while living in Roby, TX for a few years. They moved back to Lubbock, where they have lived for the past 31 years. He was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. Roy was preceded in death by his daughter, Tege Hart in 1997, and a brother, Larry Stephenson in 2018. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Stephenson, of Lubbock, TX, 4 children, Monty Stephenson of Lubbock, Amy Riley and husband Van of Abernathy, Angie Ruder and husband Brant of Lubbock, and Sterling Taylor and wife Colleen of Houston, TX, 15 grandchildren, Tainé Sampler and husband Mike, Shay Weems and husband Jobin, Tallen Capt and wife Emily, Lexus Miller and husband Austin, Samantha Hart, Carson Riley and wife Kelby, Madison Hall and husband Eric, Shealen Taylor and Adria Taylor, 14 great-grandchildren, a brother Gary Stephenson and wife, Sammie of Abernathy, and sister-in-law Wanda Stephenson.
