Reiner Rieken

Services for Reiner Rieken, Jr. 83, of New Deal, TX, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the New Deal First Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Kirksey officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family received friends at Abell Funeral Home Friday evening, March 9, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Mr. Rieken died Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Lubbock, TX. He was born to Reiner and Kuni Gunda (Schirmer) Rieken, Sr. on February 13, 1929 in Lubbock County, TX. He married Clyde "Theola" Perkins on August 27, 1948 in Lubbock, TX and she preceded him in death November 20, 1997. He was a lifelong New Deal area resident and was a member of AA and Al-Anon since April 5, 1976. He was involved in Little League, Scouting and was a member of Farm Bureau. He is survived by 2 sons; Karl Rieken and his wife Sheryl of New Deal, TX and Ron Rieken and his wife Rhonda of Lubbock, TX. He is survived by his 5 grandchildren, Kristie Rieken of Houston, TX and Kasey Rieken and girlfriend Chrystal Jansz, Shenai Alonge and Heather Piwonka all of Lubbock, TX, Austin Wakefield and his wife Priscilla of Suffolk, VA, 8 great grandchildren; Marshall and Koehn Rieken, Kaegan Sciretta, Adia Alonge, Katy, Jacob, Andy and Sara Piwonka. The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the Alcohol Recovery Center (ARC).
