Services for R. C. Patterson, Jr., 92, of Sachse, TX, and formerly of Abernathy, TX, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, in the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Patterson died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Garland, TX. He was born November 25, 1915 in Wellington, TX to R. C. Patterson and Eula Estelle (Rhodes) Patterson. He married Floreine Hall on November 24, 1936 in Portales, NM. He was a graduate of Abernathy High School. He was a cotton farmer until around 1958, when he became a carpenter and building contractor. During his life, he built churches in Petersburg, TX, Liberal, KS and Scott City, KS. When the Church of the Nazarene was built in Abernathy, TX in 1957, where he and his family were members, he was a leading carpenter. He also traveled for two Work-and-Witness mission trips: one to Peru, South America and one to Haiti in the Caribbean. He and Floreine lived in Abernathy until 1992 when they moved to Oklahoma City, OK. They moved to Sachse, TX in 2007, to live with their daughter and husband, Phil and Lajuana Grindstaff. He is survived by his wife, Floreine Patterson of Sachse, TX, a son, Ladell Patterson of Oklahoma City, OK, 3 daughters, Colene Sanders of Bonner Springs, KS, Barbara Brown of Oklahoma City, OK and Lajuana Grindstaff of Sachse, TX. He is also survived by a brother, Vester Patterson of Arlington, TX and 3 sisters, Alma Ruth Schaap and Erma May Spruiell both of Abernathy, TX, and Lorene Wright of Wichita, KS, 11 grandchildren, Allen Patterson, Greg Patterson, Roger Patterson, Mike Reed, Randy Reed, Scott Grindstaff, Shelly Brown, Christy Harding, David Grindstaff, April Brown and Mendy Mosgrove, and 26 great grandchildren.
