Services for W. R. "Pete" Knox, 78, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2015, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Mr. Knox died at his home in Abernathy, Tuesday, October 20, 2015. He was born March 6, 1937 in Oklahoma to Roy and Rube (Hall) Knox. He married June Crow, December 9, 1956 in Abernathy. He was employed with Southwestern Public Service for 42 years. He was a charter member of the Abernathy EMS and served on the Volunteer Fire Department. He was past president of the Abernathy Little Dribblers and was a member of the Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary, serving on their Board of Directors. He also served as chairman of the Covenant Gift Shop and was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church. He loved camping and traveling in their RV and was a devoted family man, always making it a priority to attend the events of his children and grandchildren, his family was of the utmost importance to Pete. He was preceded in death by a son, Darren Knox in 1994, a brother, Duane Knox, a sister, Joyce Nash, his parents, Roy and Rube Knox and father and mother-in-law, Emmett and Helen Crow. He is survived by his wife, June of Abernathy, 2 daughters, Denice Abbe and husband Rusty and Debbie Sampley and husband Shawn all of Lubbock, TX, 10 grandchildren, Lindsey and Stuart Bartley, Ashley and Brody Robertson, Alyssa and Jared Hatfield, Regan and John Cardinal and Kelsey and Rebel Blackwell IV. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Ashtyn and Jaxson Bartley, Berslon and Brylon Robertson, Kason and Kelton Hatfield, Jace and Hadley Cardinal and Abbey Blackwell. The family suggests memorials be made to the Covenant Medical Center Auxillary, Attn; Auxillary, 3615 19th, Lubbock, TX 79410.
