Services for Opal Cannon, 90, longtime resident of Hale Center, TX, were held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 19, 2002, in the Church of Christ, Hale Center, TX, with Silas Short officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. She died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in the Care Inn of Plainview, TX. Mrs. Cannon was born on February 4, 1912 in Olustee, OK. She moved to Hale Center in 1929 from Olustee. She married Jay Cannon on October 30, 1922 in Clovis, NM. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1990. She was a member of the Church of Christ, the Hale Center Senior Citizens and was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, J. G. Cannon and his wife Nancy of Hale Center, TX, 3 grandchildren, Melinda Summers and her husband John of Plainview, TX, Chris CAnnon and his wife Lana of Hale Center, TX, and Brenda Jackson and her husband Andrew of DeSoto, TX. 10 great grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to the Hale Center Senior Citizens, P.O.
