Rosary services for Maria Lionor "Nellie" Garcia, 83, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 8:00 pm Sunday, June 7, 2009, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Hale Center, TX. Funeral mass was celebrated in the St. Theresa's Catholic Church at 2:00 pm Monday, June 8, 2009. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Garcia died Thursday, June 4, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born February 24, 1926 in Abernathy, TX. She married Selso Garcia, Sr. on May 17, 1948 in Clovis, NM. She was an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church where she served as Communion minister, lector, treasurer, member of the Guadalupanas, and taught baptismal classes and marriage counseling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Selso Garcia, Sr. who died March 16, 2006 and 3 grandchildren, Toby Garcia, Seanda Garcia and Nicholas Garcia. She is survived by 9 sons: Selso Garcia, Jr. of Hobbs, NM; David Garcia of Plainview, TX, Gene Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Rudy Garcia of San Angelo, TX, John Garcia of Harker Heights, TX, Alvin Garcia of Amarillo, TX, Andrew Garcia of Barto, PA, Joe Garcia and Raymond Garcia of Hale Center, TX, 5 daughters, Christina Martinez of Cedar Hill, TX, Vicki Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Patsy Gomez of Canyon, TX, Mary Ramon of Hale Center, TX and Lionora Olvera of Plainview, TX, 50 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Annie Lucero of Clovis, NM, Ramon Simpson of Temple, TX and Frances Hinojosa of Lubbock, TX.
