Natividad Salazar Cavazos, born on December 25, 1941, in Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Plainview, Texas. A beloved matriarch, Natividad's life was characterized by her selfless nature and unwavering love for her family. She was the cherished daughter of Hilario and Lucia (Gonzalez) Salazar.
Raised in Brownsville, Natividad moved to Abernathy in 1986, where she continued to nurture her passion for family. She found joy in family camping trips and spent many happy moments at casinos, always with a smile that could light up a room. Her greatest pleasure came from having her family gathered around her, particularly her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. A compassionate soul, she always prioritized the needs of others, making her a role model for all who knew her.
Natividad is survived by her children: Judy Minjares of Plainview, Texas; Connie Avila of Brownsville, Texas; Armando Tanguma; Alberto Tanguma; Servando Cavazos III; Joe Cavazos, all of Abernathy, Texas; Jose Tanguma of Petersburg, Texas; and Norberta Cavazos and Ashley Cooper, both of Lubbock, Texas. Her legacy continues through numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as her nine siblings.
Natividad was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Servando Cavazos, Jr., and her daughter, Norberta Hernandez. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her love and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Graveside services in the Abernathy Cemetery will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2026 with Rev. Brian Wood of St. Isidore Catholic Church officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas.
