Melville Joe Boggus

Graveside services for Mel J. Boggus, 94, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2018, in the Center Plains Cemetery, Cotton Center, TX, with Rev. Janet Edwards officiating.  Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

Mr. Boggus died at his home in Abernathy, Friday, August 31, 2018.

He was born July 21, 1924 in Hale County, TX, 1 of 6 children born to Walter Roy and Leah (Smithee) Boggus. He  grew up in Cotton Center where he graduated High School and was the last surviving member of his high school graduating class.  Following graduation, he attended Texas Tech University until enlisting in the US Navy, serving in WWII.  He married Dorothy Jo Taylor, May 22, 1965.  and in February of 1966, they moved into the home they built in Abernathy.

Mr. Boggus was preceded in death by a son, David Krause and 4 siblings.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Boggus of Abernathy, a daughter, Debby Chamlee and husband Danny of Lubbock, TX, 2 grandsons, Tanner Joe Chamlee of Dallas, TX and Todd Mikkel Krause and wife Carrie of Fayettville, AR and a brother, Arnold Ray Boggus and wife Ann Jack of Covina, CA.
