Melva Settle

Graveside services for Melva Settle, 94, of Seagraves, TX and recently of Lubbock, TX, will be held Monday, September 4, 2017 at 10:00am in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Andy Hurst officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop.

Mrs. Settle died Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Lubbock, TX.

She was born to Henry & Myrtle (Bassinger) Vineyard on February 26, 1923 in Holtville, CA. The family moved to Abernathy, TX where she was raised and graduated from Abernathy High School. She married Hubert C. Settle on August 26, 1954 in Seagraves, TX. They were married for over 46 years. A longtime Seagraves resident, she was a housewife and enjoyed traveling with her husband to many places including Hawaii and Europe. Mrs. Settle moved to Lubbock in 2012.

Mrs. Settle was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert C. Settle on August 17, 2001.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, W. T. Settle of Abernathy and 19 nieces and nephews including Jan McGaugh of Abernathy, and Ron Loyd of Mesa, AZ who were her caretakers.

The family suggests memorials be sent to a favorite charity.
