Mary Maldonado Lopez

Rosary for Mary Maldonado Lopez, 85, of Abernathy, TX, will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday, December 12, 2024, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Wood, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 13, 2024 at the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mrs. Lopez died at her home December 9, 2024 in Abernathy. Mary was born December 15, 1938 to Florentino and Elodia (Torres) in Dilley, TX. Her family lived in San Antonio, TX before moving to Lamesa, TX where she was raised. Mary was wed to Felipe Lopez, Sr. July 27, 1958 in Lamesa, TX. After getting married they moved to Abernathy. She was a huge Texas Tech University, Dallas Cowboy and Kansas City Chiefs fan, especially fond of Patrick Mahomes. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as a second mother. Mary loved dancing, watching all the grandchildren and great grandchildren's school activities and having lunch dates with her siblings. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas. She is preceded in death by her husband Felipe Lopez, Sr, sons David Lopez, Felipe Lopez, II, and Daniel Lopez, daughter Minerva Lopez and a great granddaughter Destiny Raye Kent. Mary is survived by sons Luis Lopez and Felipe Lopez, Jr. and wife Cindy all of Abernathy, daughters Hilda Lopez of Lubbock and Rachel Lopez of Abernathy, daughter-in-law Melissa Lopez, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, siblings Ray Maldonado and wife Linda of Woodrow, TX, Janie Vidaurrie and Julia Gonzales and husband Pete both from Lamesa, TX and Susanna Maldonado of Lubbock. Family suggests memorials be made to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Pl, Lubbock, TX 79410.
