Memorial services for Mary Settle Leon, 72, of Petersburg, TX were held at 11:00 am Friday, May 3, 2002, in the Petersburg First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Crouch officiating. Rev. Ted Wilson assisted. Burial was held prior to the services in the Petersburg Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Leon died on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her home in Petersburg. She was born on December 8, 1929, to Edwin and Rosa (Eddleman) Settle, in Lubbock, TX. She married Wilbur Leon in Lubbock on August 9, 1949. She was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg where she served as past chairman on the Administrative Board, was a Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study Leader. She was past president of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Leon in 1996. Survivors; husband, Wilbur Leon of Petersburg, TX, 3 daughters, Paula Martin of Petersburg, TX, Kathy Vanderpool of Wolfforth, TX, and Janet Shuffield of Austin, TX. 2 sons, Tommy Leon of Lawrence, KS, and Carroll Leon of Petersburg, TX. 1 sister, Rosa Marie Bevers of Lubbock, TX. 11 grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 1706 Ave. G, Petersburg, TX, 79250 or to the Petersburg Library, 1614 Main Street, Petersburg, TX, 79250.
