Graveside services for Mary Fort, 96, of LaJara, Colorado, were held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in the Center Plains Cemetery, Cotton Center, TX with Rev. Ken Rowland officiating. Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Fort died on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at her home in LaJara, Colorado. She was born on November 14, 1905 in Chickasha, OK. She married James W. Fort, Sr. and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1983. She was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, card games and spending time with her family. Survivors; 1 daughter, Ina Davis of LaJara, Colorado, 2 brothers, Howard Shackelford of Cotton Center, TX and Bennie Shackelford of Lake Kiowa, TX. 3 sisters, Wilma Gross of Weatherford, TX, Lorretta Stavenhagen of Granbury, TX, and Lorene Hart of Weatherford, TX. 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.
