Rosary for Maria "Mary" DeJesus Ramos Ramirez, 91, of Abernathy, TX, will be recited Monday, December 30, 2013, at 7:00pm in the St. Isidore Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 10:00am in the same church with Rev. Jacob Puthuparambil officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. Viewing will be Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 1:00pm untill 6:00pm at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy, Texas. Mrs. Ramirez died Friday, December 27, 2013, in Abernathy, TX. She was born March 7, 1922 in Corpus Christi, TX to Acencion & Felipa (Hernandez) Ramos. She married Daniel Ramirez May 2, 1942 in Robstown, Texas. They were a migrant family moving from town to town until making Abernathy their home. Mrs. Ramirez worked in the Abernathy School Cafeteria for 26 years, not knowing how to read or understand English. She was very active in the Catholic Church as a Guadalupana and Cursillista. She loved gardening and had a green thumb. She greatly enjoyed taking care of her grandkids and making tamales. Most of all, she was a loving mother with a strong faith in the Lord. Mrs. Ramirez was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, September 15, 1985. She is survived by her six children, Santos Ramirez and wife, Estella, of Amarillo, TX; Carmen Lopez and husband Joe, Angie "Lala" Ramirez, Joe Ramirez and wife Lupe, Janie Aguirre and husband John Joe, all of Abernathy, and Erma Linda "Melie" Champion and husband, Eddie, of Grand Island, NE, 25 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Leonor Ramirez of Dallas, TX, niece, Alicia Ramirez and nephews Al Ramirez and Alfredo Ramirez, all of Chicago, Il, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and good friends.
