Services for Margaret Bourland, 86, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 20, 2003, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Caroll Green, pastor of First Baptist Church, Loop, TX, officiating. Burial followed services in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Bourland died on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, in Hereford, TX. She was born in December 14, 1917 in Hubbard, TX. She graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1935. She married J.C. "Jake" Bourland, on October 20, 1939 in Hale Center, TX. They moved to Hale Center in 1946. He preceded her in death May 14, 2001. She was employed as a bookkeeper for R.L. Burgess & Son Oil Company from 1950 until 1966. She then worked for the City of Hale Center as City Secretary until her retirement in 1981. She was a charter member of the Hale Center Senior Citizens and was a member of the Hale Center First Baptist Church. She is survived by; 1 son, Gary "Rusty" Bourland of Refugio, TX, 3 daughters, Peggy Pope of Graford, TX, Sandra Bankhead of Refugio, TX and Billie Day of Hereford, TX. 1 brother, Ralph Madera of Plainview, TX. 1 sister, Rheba Burgess of Lubbock, TX. 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
