Mahlon Goebel

Graveside services for Mahlon L. Goebel, 81, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 28, 2002, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Marvin James officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Goebel died at his home, Thursday, September 26, 2002. He was born on March 29, 1921 in Abernathy. He married Candy McAteer on June 20, 1951 in Lubbock, TX. She preceded him in death on April 15, 1981. He married Eloise Kelley on November 30, 1981 in Lubbock. He was also preceded in death by a son; Rodney Edmunds in March of 2001. He grew up in Abernathy and moved to Lubbock after graduating from New Deal High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1942 and was discharged in November of 1946. He retired in 1981 from the Santa Fe Railroad after 31 years of service. Survivors include; wife, Eloise Goebel of Lubbock, TX, 1 daughter, Debra Dupler of Lubbock, TX, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to a favorite charity.
