Rosary for Magdaleno Betancur, 81, of Abernathy, TX, were recited at 7:30 pm Wednesday, October 30, 2002 in St. Isidore Catholic Church, with Rev. Arnold Bravo, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, October 31, 2002, at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Arnold Bravo, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Betancur died at his home in Abernathy on Tuesday, October 29, 2002. He was born on November 16, 1920 in Karn City, TX. He married Ramona Gonzales 58 years ago in Lubbock, Tx. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 until 1946. He moved to Abernathy in 1947 from Brady, TX. He was a farmer for 30 years and then was employed with the Lubbock Independent School District as a maintenance technician. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Sacred Heart and was an usher and a Cursillistas. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Ramona Betancur of Abernathy, TX, 2 sons, Arturo Betancur of Lubbock, TX and Johnny Gonzalez of Arlington, TX. 1 daughter, Candy Vasquez of Abernathy, TX. 2 brothers, Jose Betancur and Cruz Betancur both of Lubbock, TX. 1 sister, Erlinda Orta of San Antonio, TX. 7 grandchildren, John S. Gonzales, Christina Roy, David Anthony Martinez, Justin Betancur, Damian, Danny & Marcos Vasquez. 7 great grandchildren, Elaria and Marlee Roy, Haley, Marissa, Brendon and Trevor Vasquez.
