Mac Allen Houston, a dedicated farmer and rancher, passed away on February 17, 2026, in Plainview, Texas. Born on January 18, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas, Mac was the son of E.A. "Bill" and Katherine (Brownd) Houston. He touched many lives throughout his career, initially in Hale County and later in Wagon Mound, New Mexico.

A proud graduate of Abernathy High School, where he completed his education in 1961, Mac was known for his spirited participation in high school football. He went on to create a life rooted in both family and agriculture. On June 2, 1963, he married Rita Evans in Abernathy, Texas. Together, they built a loving family and dedicated their lives to nurturing their children and grandchildren.

Mac's commitment to his family was evident in many aspects of his life. He actively engaged in team roping during his sons' youth, a testament to his belief in the importance of shared interests and activities. He will be warmly remembered for his generosity, kind spirit, and unwavering support as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church, grounding his life in faith and community service. 

Mac is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Houston, of Abernathy, Texas. He leaves behind his sons, Rick Houston and wife Lori of Abernathy, and Brandon Houston and wife Gini of El Reno, Oklahoma. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Bailey Wade and husband Bryce, Luke Houston, Taylor Houston, and Billy Mac Houston, all of Abernathy; as well as Ben Houston, Ashlee Snyder and husband Seth, and Cade Houston, all of El Reno, Oklahoma, and a great-grandson Boone Wade. Mac is also survived by his siblings, Billie Johnson and husband Ron and Rhetta Riley and husband Clark, both of Abernathy, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Lane Houston, who passed away on November 16, 2020, and his sister, Gloria Gray, who died on December 11, 2025.

Visitation will be held on February 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Abell Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at Abernathy Cemetery on February 21, 2026, commencing at 1:00 PM, with Kyle Brock officiating and speakers Gordon Havens and Bill Dubose.

Mac Allen Houston will be remembered for his devotion to his family, work ethic, and dedication to his community. His legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
