Lydia Mendoza Dominguez, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on April 5, 1943, in Hondo, Texas, Lydia was the beloved daughter of Encarnacion and Juanita Mendoza. She lived a life marked by love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
Lydia married her devoted husband, Jose Dominguez, on November 17, 1956, in Abernathy, Texas. Together they built a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. Jose predeceased her in 2004, leaving behind cherished memories of their life together.
Throughout her life, Lydia held various roles, one of which was working at Dairy Queen, where her friendly demeanor and customer service left a lasting impression on those who visited. Lydia was also a proud member of the Spanish Church of the Nazarene, where her faith and community involvement brought her joy.
Her personality was characterized by her love for sewing and her enjoyment of making tamales, activities that she shared with her family, fostering traditions that will continue for generations. Lydia also loved playing bingo and loteria, activities that brought her much happiness and camaraderie with friends and family.
Lydia is survived by her children, including Jerry and wife Cindy Dominguez of Petersburg, Texas; Gilda Costilla of Muleshoe; Eufemia and husband Arnulfo Ramos of Abernathy, Texas; Olivia Duque of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Olga and husband Oscar Martinez of Lubbock, Texas; Isabel and husband Jose Luis Ortiz of Mission, Texas; and Maria and husband Jorge Gonzales of Dallas, Texas; as well as Tiger and wife Jessica Moreno of Aqua Dulce, Texas, and Peewee and Kristy Dominguez of Graham, Texas. She is also survived by her son-in-law Leroy Flores. Lydia's legacy continues through her 27 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and multiple great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her spirit of kindness and nurturing care.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Annabel Dominguez Flores, son-in-law Jessie Costilla, and grandson Gilbert Ramos, Jr.
A memorial service in Lydia’s honor will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Abernathy, Texas, with Noe de los Santos officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas.
Lydia Mendoza Dominguez will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her enduring spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
