Lucia Gatica

Rosary for Lucia Gatica, 92, of Abernathy, TX, will be recited at 7:00 pm Sunday, February 19, 2017, at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Puthuparambil, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 20, 2017 in the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mrs. Gatica died at her home, Thursday, February 16, 2017. She was born December 13, 1924 in Lampasas, TX to Juan and Maria San Roman Flores. She married Juan DeDios Gatica, September 18, 1942 in Sinton, TX. She was a longtime Abernathy resident and she and her husband were founding members of St. Isidore Catholic Church where she was a member of the Guadalupanas. She began raising funds to build St. Isidore by selling coffee breads and cakes. She was a hard worker, hoeing cotton, working at the Mill in Abernathy and sold tamales to help support her family and she loved to sing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Gatica on October 27, 2006, 2 sons, Juan Inez Gatica in 1998 and Jose Alfredo Gatica in 2005, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and 1 great grandchild. She is survived by 3 daughters, Janie Esparza and Rosa Maria Barron both of Abernathy and Inez Luera of Wallis, TX, 2 sisters, Petra Gatica of Washington and Reyna Gonzalez of Glendale, AZ, 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
