Lois Purvis

Memorial graveside service for Lois Nivens Purvis, 75, of Santa Teresa, NM, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 11, 2004, at Hale Center Cemetery with Rev. Gene Meacham officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home in Hale Center. She died December 3, 2004 in Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas. She was born November 26, 1929 in Sudan, Texas. She married James Purvis July 3, 1953 in Roswell, NM. She was a journalist and had worked for Artesia Daily Press, Roswell Daily Record, El Paso Times. She received several journalist awards from the New Mexico Press Association. She is survived by 2 sons, John Easley Purvis of El Paso, TX and James Daniel Jones - Purvis of Frisco, TX, a grandson, Ryan Shaun Purvis and a great granddaughter, Emily Marie Purvis. She is preceded in death by a daugter, Rebecca JoAnn Purvis on February 3, 2003 and her husband, James Pittman Purvis on September 11, 2004. Abell Funeral Home
