Larry Gene Turner

Services for Larry G. Turner, 71, of Abernathy, Texas will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 17, 2023 at Northside Baptist Church in Abernathy, Texas with Rev. Joel Perez officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop, Abernathy, Texas. The family will gather to receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Turner died on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on January 13, 1952, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Coy and Lorean (Stephens) Turner. Larry attended Abernathy High School, graduating in 1970, and then attended Ranger Junior College, where he enjoyed playing football for two years. He married Sharon Cox on November 21, 1972 in Abernathy. Larry worked for Pioneer Gas for 5 years before he began farming for 36 years in the Spade and County Line areas. He then became a truck owner/operator for 15 years. Larry enjoyed his time in both careers, always visiting with other farmers and truckers while enjoying a cup of coffee with them. He took great pride in watching his grandchildren play sports. Larry also taught Sunday School at the County Line Baptist Church and served on the board of the County Line Co-Op Gin for several years. Larry is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Sharon Turner, of Abernathy, 3 children Jody Turner and wife, Erin, and Jeff Turner, all of Idalou, Texas and Amanda Honaker and husband, Herb, of Lubbock, 4 grandchildren Katelyn Turner, Cole Turner, Morgan Little, and Taylor Honaker, and 4 siblings Kathy McKinley of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Bill Turner, David Turner both of Abernathy and Chris Turner of Granbury, Texas.
