Memorial service for LaDawn Skipper, 67, lifelong Abernathy resident, will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, August 1, 2025 in The Refuge Lubbock, 4308 58th Street, Lubbock with Pastor Travis Zachary, officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
She died at her home in Abernathy, July 29, 2025.
LaDawn was born December 9, 1957 in Lubbock, TX to Johnny and Claudine (Cloud) Skipper. She graduated from Abernathy High School in 1976 and later earned her Bachelor of elementary education from Wayland Baptist University in 2018. She enjoyed needlepoint, and while she was a homebody, she spent that time reading and studying her Bible. LaDawn was employed for Anton ISD for 6 years teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grade english and language arts. Anton ISD is quoted as saying, "She was a beloved educator, mentor, and friend who loved every student she taught and every life she touched. Ms. Skipper was dedicated to shaping young minds with kindness and wisdom. She loved her students fiercely and cared deeply for others—her warmth, passion, and presence will be dearly missed by all."
She was preceded in death by her mother, Claudine Skipper, November 19, 2019 and her niece, Lauren Labeth, December 7, 2021.
LaDawn is survived by her daughter, Lynsey Copeland and husband Derek and a grandson, Easton Skipper all of New Deal, TX, father, Johnny Skipper of Abernathy, 3 siblings, David Skipper and wife, Marilou of Abernathy, Leah Godwin of Lubbock, TX and Pam Yeaman and husband Terry of Huntsville, TX, 2 nephews, Josh Skipper and wife Cindy of Ft. Worth, TX and Derek Skipper of Abernathy, TX and several great nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, 4404 Idalou Road, Lubbock, TX 79403 or to a classroom library at your favorite school.
