Services for Kathleen L. Turner, 80, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2002, in the First Baptist Church, Hale Center, with Rev. Gene Meacham and Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Park, Plainview, TX, under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Turner died Wednesday, February 27, 2002 in Olton, TX. She was born on December 29, 1921, in Sweetwater TX. She married Cecil Turner on February 8, 1948, in Abilene, TX. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1986. She moved to Hale Center from Roscoe, TX, in 1951. She was a Registered Nurse and was Director of the Nursing Schools at Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center, as well as the Director of the Nursing Schools at Plainview Independent School District and South Plains College at Plainview, TX. She was past president of the Women For Wayland, was a member of the Hale Center First Baptist Church and the Gideon's Auxillary. Survivors; 1 son, Eddie Turner and his wife Sue of Plainview, TX. 3 daughters, Viki Hicks and her husband Ron of San Marcos, TX, Kathie Jackson and her husband Mike of Olton, TX, and Terri Burke and her husband Doug of Amarillo, TX. 1 brother, O. B. Freeman of Sweetwater, TX. 9 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Cecil and Kathleen Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wayland Baptist University, 1900 W. 7th, Plainview, TX, 79072, or at American State Bank in Plainview, TX, or to the Gideon's International.
