Funeral services for Julia Louise Cheves, 87, of Plainview, TX, were held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the 11th & Amarillo Street Church of Christ, Plainview, TX, with J. Henderson and Lewis Senter officiating. Graveside services were held at 1:30 pm in the Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Cheves died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Plainview, TX. She was born September 10, 1916 in Cone, TX to John A. and Cora Susan Martin Newton. She married Arther B. Cheves November 27, 1933 in Hale County. They had lived in Petersburg and Hart, TX before moving to Plainview in 1974. She was a member of the 11th & Amarillo Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Cheves was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee Cheves July 9, 1953, and her husband, Arthur B. Cheves July 21, 2002. She is survived by 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Clay Harvey of Willard, MO, Judith and Cliff Davis and Brenda and Ken Farr all of Lubbock, TX, and Kathy and Steven Norris of St. Cloud, FL. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Ruth Butts of Montana and a sister-in-law, Peggy Newton of Arizona, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or to the 11th & Amarillo Church of Christ Building Fund. Abell Funeral Home
