Juan Gatica

Rosary for Juan DeDios Gatica, 85, of Abernathy, TX was recited Sunday, October 29, 2006, in the St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Judd officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, October 30, 2006, in the same church with the same officiant. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Gatica was born March 8, 1921 in Buda, TX to Justo and Donicia (Olivas) Gatica. He married Lucia Flores in Sinton, TX on August 18, 1942, and on August 29, 1942 he began his service in the United States Army. He eaned an Honorable Discharge in November of 1945. The Gatica family moved to Abernathy in 1960 and he was a member of the St. Isidore Catholic Church where he served as Usher and volunteered in many capacities. Mr. Gatica is preceded in death by 2 sons, Juan Inez Gatica in 1998 and Jose Alfredo Gatica in 2005, 2 sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife Lucia Gatica of Abernathy, TX, 3 daughters, Janie Esparza of Idalou, TX, Rosa Maria Barron of Phoenix, AZ and Inez Luera of Wallis, TX, 2 half-brothers, Jose Angel Gatica and Luciana Gatica and 2 half-sisters, Margaret Cardenas and Donicia Guerra all of Arizona, 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
