Jose Vasquez

Rosary for Jose M. Vasquez, 62, of Abernathy, TX, was held at 7:30 pm Monday, July 14, 2003, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Arnold Bravo, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday,July 15, 2003, in St. Isidore Catholic Church. Burial followdc in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Vasquez died at his home in Abernathy, Sunday, July 13, 2003. He was born on February 23, 1941 in Montemorelos, Mexico. He married Candelaria "Candy" Betancur in 1986 in Lubbock, TX and moved to Abernathy from Lubbock. He attended the University of Mexico for pre-law, and later graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon, Tx. He was a probation officer for Deaf Smith and Lubbock Counties. In 1985 he began working for the Lubbock County General Assistance Program and became their director. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church choir for 10 years, was a member of LULAC and served on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Lubbock. Survivors, wife, Candy Vasquez of Abernathy, TX. 3 sons, Jose Damian Vasquez of Lubbock, TX, Marcos Vasquez of Hereford, TX, and Daniel Vasquez of California. 1 daughter, Christina Roy of Abernathy, TX. 1 sister, Eunice V. Schroyer of Jacksonville, FL. 7 grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of Lubbock. Abell Funeral Home
