Jose G. Olivas

Rosary for Jose Guadalupe Olivas, 84, of Abernathy, TX will be recited on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 7:00pm in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Wood officiating. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 10:00am in the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mr. Olivas died Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Abernathy, TX. He was born on November 11, 1936 in Abernathy to Agapito and Maria (Gutierrez) Olivas. Jose was raised in the Abernathy area and married Margarita Olguin on July 27, 1963 in Hale Center, TX. He farmed east of Abernathy for 40 years, then worked for Wolf Irrigation before retiring in 2003. Following retirement, Jose protected the children of the community as a school cross walk guard for a time. He was a founding member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jose is preceded in death by 2 sons Anselmo Olivas in 1969 and David Olivas in 2018, brother George Olivas in 2020 and a great grandson Kaylub Olivas in 2021. He is survived by his wife, Margarita Olivas of Abernathy, son Agapito "Pete" Olivas and wife, Maria of Abernathy, and daughter Mary Alice Olivas and husband Michael Martinez of Lubbock, TX, brother Sammy Olivas of Sacramento, CA, sister Virginia (Mansanales) Hidadock and husband, John, of Mountain Top, PA, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
