Rosary for Joe Garcia, 75, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, August 31st, 2015, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Puthuparambil, pastor, officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 1, 2015, in the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow services in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Garcia died Friday, August 28, 2015, at his residence in Abernathy. He was born October 5, 1939 in Mathis, TX to Marcilino and Catarina (Aguirre) Garcia. He had lived in Earth, TX and Cotton Center, TX prior to his marriage to Amy Cuevas on May 29, 1960, the first couple to get married in the newly built, St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center, TX. They moved to Petersburg, where they lived for 8 years prior to moving to Abernathy. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he served as a Communion Minister and assisted the Father at Church until he was forced to retire for health reasons. He was also a member of the Cursillista. Joe was an avid and faithful Dallas Cowboys fan. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Patricia Garcia Lopez, September 1, 2014, and 2 brothers, Genaro and Johnny Garcia. He is survived by his wife, Amy of Abernathy, 4 children, Cathy Saldana and husband Gilbert of Amarillo, TX, Joe Garcia, Jr. of Lubbock, TX, Amy Garcia and Pete Garcia both of Abernathy, 2 brothers, Valentine Garcia of Olton, TX and Isa Garcia of Ft. Worth, TX, 3 sisters, Micaela Lisero of Denton, TX, Alcaria Garcia of Amarillo and Guadalupe Olivares of Edinburg, TX.
