Services for Joe Garza "Elvis Presley" Caballero, 69, of Abernathy will be held at 2:00pm Monday, February 1, 2021, in the Abernathy Church of Christ with Rev. Joel Perez officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will gather to receive friends from 3pm - 4pm Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Caballero died Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in Lubbock, TX. Joe was born on January 9, 1952 in Idalou, TX to Ocatavio & Maria (Garza) Caballero. The family moved to Wyoming for a few years returning when he was five years old. He married the love of his life, Mary Guadalupe Quintero on February 14, 1970, in Abernathy. They shared nearly 51 years together through heartaches and celebrations. A resident of Abernathy for most of his life, Joe's hobbies included restoring old cars, listening to oldies, collecting guns and hunting. He loved performing as "Elvis Presley" at numerous venues including the Abernathy Jamboree. Joe was a wonderful provider for his family teaching his children to be self-sufficient. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Staff Sergeant Virginia Caballero on September 13, 2014, 3 brothers Jesse Caballero, Big Joe Caballero, and Pete Caballero, and 5 sisters Rita Rodriguez, Francis Soto, Concha Flores, Rosie Martinez and Judy Perez. Mr. Caballero is survived by his wife, Mary Caballero of Abernathy, 2 daughters Maria Medrano and husband, Danny, of Lubbock, and Suzie Caballero Turner of Colorado Springs, CO, son Joey Caballero of Abernathy, 7 grandchildren D.J. Medrano, Ariel Medrano, Jasmine Medrano, Alexis Turner, Amber Turner, Ashton Turner and Josiah Caballero, 5 great grandchildren Adrian, Prince Gilbert, Pure Angel, Alaric & Amara, 4 sisters Mary Mendez and husband, Leo, of Woodrow, TX, Linda Trujillo of Denver, CO, Josie Caballero Loza of Sweetwater, TX and Anita Cantu and husband Eliberto of Abilene, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family is requesting those attending visitation and services to wear face masks, gloves and observe social distancing.
