Jimmy C. Shuey

Jimmy C. Shuey, a devoted fire fighter, beloved family man, and cherished member of the Abernathy community, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on February 12, 1942, in Abernathy, Texas, to Robert Grady and Anita Elizabeth (Taylor) Shuey. Jimmy dedicated 23 years of his life to serving as a fire fighter for the City of Lubbock while also contributing his time and service to the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department. His unwavering commitment to public safety and the well-being of others was evident throughout his distinguished career.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jimmy had a multitude of personal interests that enriched the lives of those around him. He took great joy in camping at Lake Brownwood and exploring the mountains. His passion for model railroads and woodworking reflected his creativity and love for craftsmanship. Jimmy also served as a Boy Scout leader for the Abernathy Boy Scouts, instilling values of leadership and perseverance in many young hearts.

A proud member of the Abernathy Church of Christ, he embraced his faith and the sense of community it provided. Jimmy found true joy in his family, marrying Virginia Lagean Thomas on June 3, 1962, in Abernathy, Texas. Their enduring love formed the cornerstone of his life until her passing on January 8, 2016.

Jimmy is survived by his two sons, Grady Shuey and wife Tracie of Brownwood, TX, and Chris Shuey of Abernathy, TX; his daughter, Vicki Grisham and husband Gary of Abernathy, TX; daughter-in-law Kim Shuey of Dimmitt, TX; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gene Shuey of Abernathy, TX. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Shuey; his son, Russell Shuey; his brothers, Kenneth and Barney Shuey; and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Shuey.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation with family on November 17, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Abell Funeral Home, located at 411 16th St, Abernathy, TX 79311. A graveside service, officiated by Steve Gauntt, will be held the following day, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Abernathy Cemetery, Abernathy, Texas 79311.

His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey.
