Jimmy Griggs

November 30, 1942 — February 27, 2013

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Jimmy Ralph Griggs, 69, of Lubbock, TX, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, March 1, 2013, in the Green Lawn Church of Christ with Dub Hannel officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall, viewing will be in the sanctuary of Green Lawn Church of Christ from 12:00 pm until 1:15 pm Friday. He was born in Lubbock, TX December 15, 1943, the son of Ray and Susie Griggs. He attended Lubbock High School and began as a carpet layer in 1963 with his brothers and went into sales in 1994 until the present in the family business of Griggs Carpet. He was also a well known and respected Game Fowl Breeder. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patty Fortenberry Hall Griggs. His proudest accomplishments were his children, Aceca Griggs, Amanda Hall Derby and her husband Josh and Richelle Hall Wilson and husband J. P. The joy of his life were his 4 grandchildren Cameron Griggs, Isaac DeLeon, Caleb Griggs and Harper Wilson. Also surviving are his mother, Susie Griggs, a sister, Sharon Taylor, and brothers, Tommy and wife Evelyn, Kenneth, Larry and wife Bettye, Al and wife Debbie, in-laws, Jake and Bea Fortenberry, sister-in-law, Coralie Cox and husband Speck and special friends John and Ann Klein. He was proud of his numerous nieces and nephews, Lynn Hewlitt, Scottie Griggs, Pam Gollihar, David Mapp, Kenny, Dale, Jason and Tanner Griggs, Chad Taylor, Dena Goen, Jake Fortenberry and wife Sandra, Niki Mabry and husband Trent, Cody Cox and wife Lyndee, Zeke Fortenberry, Brandon Phillips and wife Cindy, Paula Phillips, Connie Cimino and Wendy Bailey and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Ray Griggs, a sister, Peggy Scott and son, Cody Griggs. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Willow Bend Student and Family Fund, c/o Green Lawn Church of Christ, 5701 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407.
