Jerry Nell Presley

Jerry Nell Presley, 86, of Slaton, Texas, passed away on September 13, 2026. She was born on June 25, 1940, in Bisbee, Arizona to Lowery and Dorothy (McDaniel) Deering.

Jerry graduated from Abernathy High School in 1956 and went on to build a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. She worked as a beautician and florist, bringing care, creativity, and beauty into the lives of many. She was baptized at County Line Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church Abernathy. Her faith also found expression in her work as a Sunday School teacher, a role in which she was deeply respected. She helped raise many young women in Abernathy and was revered for the steady guidance, encouragement, and example she offered through the years.

She found joy in quilting, loved traveling, and had a special talent for growing plants, whether for beauty or for food. These gifts reflected the way she lived—patiently, thoughtfully, and with a deep appreciation for creating and nurturing what was around her. Above all, she was known as the best mother and grandmother, and her devotion to her family shaped the legacy she leaves behind. Jerry Nell was called “Gran” by all.

Jerry Nell is survived by her husband, Don Presley; her children, Ron Presley and wife Cheryl of Lubbock, Texas, Steve Presley and wife Terri of Lubbock, Tim Presley and wife Annie Green Cove, Florida, and Jana Rauschbaum and Haven of Rockport, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and her brother, Larry Deering of San Antonio, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Susie Ellis; her brother, Billy Deering; and her parents.

Memorial Services for Jerry Nell will be held at a later date. Cremation Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas.
