Jerry A. Peterson

Graveside services for Jerry A. "Pete" Peterson, 85, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 16, 2021, in the Strip Cemetery with Rev. Rob Winkler officiating. Burial and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Peterson died at his home Friday, June 11, 2021. He was born May 23, 1936 in Lubbock County, TX to Alvis Thomas and Allene Louise (Young) Peterson. He was raised around the Union and Slaton, TX areas, residing in Lazbuddie most of his early years. He farmed in Lazbuddie with his Father until 1957. He married Jo Ann Nowell, December 7, 1957 in Clovis, NM. Pete then began driving a propane truck and in 1959 he began his career as a firefighter with the Lubbock Fire Department, serving 28 years, retiring in 1987. The Peterson's moved to Abernathy n 1971, and following his retirement in 1987, they moved to Lake City, CO before returning to Abernathy in 2001. Pete was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. He served as training officer for the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department for 5 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Siddie Rucker and 3 brothers, Travis, Turman and Reese Peterson. Pete is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Peterson of Abernathy, 3 daughters, Phyllis Attebury and husband Kenny of Abernathy, Jeri Rothell and husband Doyle of Amarillo, TX and Nanette Hill and husband Raymond of Shallowater, TX, 9 grandchildren, Justin Watts of Vega, TX, Tyler and Kristin Hill of Shallowater, Mark and Melissa Attebury and Chris and Kyla Attebury all of Abernathy, Tabitha and Kyle Kelley and Chelsea and Zack Simmons all of Lubbock, JoAnna and David Ray Kuehler of Groom, TX, Kristopher and Heather Lawrence of Ft. Worth, TX and Keenan and Maegan Lawrence of Levelland, TX, and 25 great grandchildren.
