James Attebury

Graveside services for James Attebury, 89, of New Deal, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 18th, 2015, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Joel Perez officiating. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, August 17th. Mr. Attebury died Saturday, August 15, 2015, in Lubbock, TX. He was born July 20, 1926 to B. E. and Elsie (Exendine) Attebury. The family moved to the Abernathy/New Deal area in the 30's. He graduated from New Deal High School in 1944, and enlisted in the US Marines, serving during WWII. He married Clara Louise Jones on June 24, 1950 in New Deal and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2005. He was an accomplished musician with the talent of being able to play most instruments by ear. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bill, T.J., and Wendell and 2 sisters, June Pate and Kathleen Howell. He is survived by his children, Jim, Debbie, Pam, Tim and Jeff all of Lubbock, TX, a brother, David also of Lubbock, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to a favorite charity.
