Iva Rhodes

Services for Iva Rhodes, 93, of Lubbock, TX were Friday at 2:00 PM, March 21, 2008, in the Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel, Lubbock, TX with Rev. Joel Perez officiating. Visitation was held at Abell Funeral Home, Abernathy, TX, where family members were present from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Mrs. Rhodes died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 after a brief illness. She was born in Blanket, TX on May 24, 1914, attended school in Abernathy and graduated from Abernathy High School in 1931. She later attended Draughn's Business College and was a bookkeeper for Rhodes Brothers Automotive and Mark Halsey Drug Stores in Lubbock and later Southwestern Public Service Company in Abernathy for approximately 18 years before her retirement in 1979. She married William Irvan Rhodes, Sr. on August 15, 1947, in Plainview. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1993. Iva was a lifelong Abernathy resident until 1999 when she moved to Carillon Senior Life Care Community in Lubbock. Survivors include two sons, William Irvan (Bill), Jr. and his wife Christine, of San Antonio, TX, Charles A. (Bud) and his wife Sue, of Wimberley, TX and grandchildren, William and Dana Rhodes, Anne Rhodes, Jeff and Susan Rhodes, and Trey Rhodes.
