Henry Kveton

November 30, 1926 — December 7, 2012

Henry Kveton, 85, of Petersburg, TX, passed away on December 7, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Henry was born on April 18, 1927 to Fred and Mary Kveton of Electra, TX. He was the third of six children. In 1930 the family moved to a farm east of Abernathy. Henry graduated from New Deal High School in 1944. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1944 through 1946 during World War II. After the war, Henry returned home and farmed for the next sixty years in the Abernathy and Petersburg areas. On February 7, 1953, he married Dorothy Jo McRae in McKinney, TX and in 1957 they moved to the Petersburg area. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, where he was a long-time usher. He was also a member of the Petersburg Lions Club. In addition, he served for many years on the Petersburg School Board, Petersburg Co-op Grain Board and the Plains Cotton Growers Board. He was also a director and chairman of the board of the First State Bank of Petersburg and after the bank's sale, he continued to serve as a community advisor for Vista Bank. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Jackson. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, a son, Mike and a daughter, Linda, all of Petersburg; two brothers, George of Lubbock and John of Abernathy; and two sisters, Angelina Provine of Capitan, NM and Rose Krupala of Hamilton, TX. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy on Monday, December 10th, from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 11th at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, with the Rev. Sharon Wiese officiating. Burial will follow at the Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family suggest memorials to the Petersburg Cemetery Association or a charity of your choice.
