Harris Scott

November 30, 1932 — March 14, 2013

Harris Roy Scott, 79, of Abernathy, TX, passed away on March 14, 2013 in Lubbock, TX. Services will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 3:30pm in the Abernathy First Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike O'Donnell officiating. Burial will be in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Harris was born to William Allen and Ada Mae Scott on April 26, 1933 in Anson, TX. He graduated from Anson High School and joined the U.S. Army proudly serving his country while stationed in Japan from 1953 to 1955. Following his service to our country, he attended Texas Tech. He worked in auto parts most of his adult life and held the position of Parts Manager at Pioneer Lincoln-Mercury at the time of his retirement in 2001. He was recognized by Ford Motor Co. for outstanding leadership in customer service. He was a long time member of Abernathy First Baptist Church where he married his wife, Geneva Stallings, on February 2, 1958. Harris' love of family is reflected in the poetry he wrote and in his research into family geneology. Preceding him in death were brothers, Theron A. Scott and Lloyd O. Scott, and brothers-in-law, Bob Gates, Lenoy Stallings, and Floyd Stubbs, and sisters-in-law Jimmie Scott and Christine Scott. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geneva Scott of Abernathy, son David and wife Carrie of Petersburg, TX, granddaughter Brittany Scott Murphy and husband Shadd of Lubbock, TX, grandson Gasten Scott of Petersburg, two great-grandchildren, Fallon and Slade Murphy of Lubbock. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert E. Scott of Smithville, TX, Frank Scott and Mack Scott, both of Amarillo, TX, two sisters, Rose Stubbs of Abilene, TX and Margaret Scott of Amarillo, TX. Other survivors include a brother-in-law Charlie Stallings and 2 sisters-in-law Nada Gates and Tommye Ruth Stallings. The family suggest memorials be sent to Abernathy First Baptist Church, Boys' Ranch, Gideons, or a favorite charity.
