Rosary for Guadalupe Martinez, 84, of Abernathy, TX and formerly of Hale Center, TX, were recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center, with Rev. John Smith, pastor, officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in the same church. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX. Mr. Martinez died Sunday, July 8, 2012, in Lubbock, TX. He was born March 26, 1928 to Eluterio and Josefa (Garza) Martinez. He married Alicia Cortez in Lyford, TX, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He moved to Hale Center in 1978 from Lyford, TX and after health problems moved to Abernathy in 2008. He had preached at the Church of Christ in O'Donnell, TX but was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Shagito Vasquez, Angelica Vasquez and Dianita Flores, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by 5 children; Diana Vasquez of Brownfield, TX, Frances Flores and Dina Sales both of Abernathy, TX, Javier Martinez and Henry Martinez both of Lubbock, TX, a sister, Estolia Mendoza of Lyford, TX, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great granddaughters.
