Greg Gist

Greg Gist, 45, of Abernathy, TX died Saturday, February 12, 2005, in Lubbock, TX. The family received friends Tuesday, February 15, 2005, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the home of Merle Enger, 903 - 1st Street in Abernathy. Private family services were held under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Greg was born February 25, 1959 to Billy Vaughn and Beth (Enger) Gist in Lubbock, TX. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1977 and attended McMurry College and the University of Texas. He was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his Father, Billy Vaughn Gist in 1983, and both Grandfathers, Vaughn Gist in 1974 and Clayton Enger in 2002. He is survived by his Mother and Stepdad, Beth and Ken Smith of Abernathy, TX, a sister, Cherise Leon and her husband Carroll of Petersburg, TX, Grandmothers, Merle Enger and Daisy Gist both of Abernathy, TX, a stepbrother, Mark Smith of Lubbock, TX and a stepsister, Staci Smith also of Lubbock, TX, nephew Rodney Leon of Wichita Falls, TX, and a niece, Kristen Leon of Lubbock, TX many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 704 Ave. D, Abernathy, TX 79311, Abernathy EMS, 412 8th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to a favorite charity.
