Services for Glenn Bennie Newsom, 87 of Lubbock, Tx will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Abell Funeral Home, Abernathy, Tx with Todd Truesdell officiating. Viewing will be held from 12:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2022. Burial will follow services in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Following a 5 year journey with cancer, Mr. Newsom died peacefully Sunday January 30th, 2022 at his home surrounded by love. Glenn was born March 21st, 1934 in Lamesa, Tx to Alvis Harper Newsom and Ila (Webster) Newsom and was raised in Welch, Tx. Glenn proudly served his country during the Korean War while enlisted in the Army. From 1953 to 1955 he was stationed at Dolan Barracks, Schwabisch Hall, in Germany. Following the war, he married Patsy Jean Todd, October 1955, in Lamesa. Together with their children, they lived in Odessa, Tx, Roswell, NM, and Asheville, NC where he worked in the medical profession before settling in Lubbock in 1970. Glenn worked at the Methodist Hospital until his retirement. Patsy preceded him in death September 2008. In 2013 Glenn married Bobbie Jensen in Lubbock. He was very generous and giving along the way and lived life to the fullest. Glenn is now reunited with friends and family gone before him after stopping at the Rainbow Bridge for his kitties. He is survived by his wife Bobbie Jensen Newsom of Lubbock, 2 daughters Stephanie Mitchell (Billy) of Lubbock and Sharon Vaughn (Dan) of Palmyra, PA. 3 grandchildren Natalie Vaughn, Heidi Surguy (Robby), and Ian Mitchell, 2 great grandchildren Connor and Cooper Surguy, and a brother Bob Newsom (Joann) of Lamesa. Among those left to remember and cherish him are many friends, neighbors, and even acquaintances who were helped and/or influenced by this gentle, caring, generous man. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice of Lubbock and Comfort Keepers of Lubbock for their care and concern for Glenn and the Newsom family. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Hospice of Lubbock 3702 21st St. Lubbock, TX 79410, the Lubbock Animal Shelter 3323 SE Loop 289 Lubbock, TX or to any local veterans organization.
